The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford recently selected 15 youth, aged 13-16 to participate in our new Junior Staff program. The program is designed to equip youth with valuable real-world work and leadership experience. Through comprehensive training, these young leaders are gaining the confidence and competencies needed to thrive in the workforce.
The program began with an immersive orientation, where junior staff learned the inner workings of key operational areas. They then put their knowledge to the test during a “BGCS Live” training day, rotating through responsibilities and being quizzed on procedures. To underscore the importance of their roles and how they relate to the Club’s mission, the group also spoke with Club CEO Craig Baker about making positive impressions.
Beyond practical training, the junior staff has been empowered to develop leadership abilities. Initiatives like the voter registration drive and Stamford Youth Voice workshop enabled them to advocate for issues in their community—critical skills for any future career path.
