“We remember.” Two simple words, but on the 25th anniversary of September 11th, our teens learned just how much they truly mean.
The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford was honored to host a special 9/11 Day panel event, bringing together first responders, a survivor, service members, community leaders, and our teen members for an afternoon of powerful storytelling, reflection, and remembrance.
BGCS CEO Craig Baker opened the event by speaking to the importance of the day. “Our teen members were not yet born when September 11th happened,” Baker shared. “But it is our responsibility, as a Club, as mentors, and as a community, to ensure they hear these stories, understand the magnitude of that day, and carry forward the promise to never forget.”
The panel featured Dr. Chris Meek, founder and CEO of the 9/11 Legacy Foundation and a survivor of the attacks; Stamford Fire Chief Rex Morris; Greenwich Fire Chief Joe McHugh; and Detective Ana Edwards of the Stamford Police Department. Each panelist shared their personal stories from that tragic day: what they saw, what they felt, and what has driven them in the 25 years since. Their accounts were powerful, emotional, and deeply inspirational.
In true BGCS fashion, our teens didn’t just attend; they led. Keystone Club member Josh moderated the discussion, guiding the conversation with poise and thoughtfulness. Keystone Club members, teens, and other first responders and veterans filled the room, along with State Senator Patricia Billie Miller, who joined in honoring the significance of the day.
A heartfelt thank you to 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps for selecting the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford as a 9/11 Day Grant Recipient, making this meaningful event possible. And to every first responder, veteran, and community member who joined us: thank you for your service, your stories, and your commitment to protecting and serving our community.
