This fall, we unveiled a new Rock Climbing Wall, which was made possible by a generous donation from Dalio Philanthropies.
Over the past decade, youth participation in climbing has doubled nationally from 1.6 to 3.2 million, yet the sport remains inaccessible to many families in our community. Rock climbing not only aligns with our core values of promoting a healthy, active lifestyle but also introduces students to a sport that can positively impact self-confidence and feelings of self-efficacy; it is a physical and mental challenge as one attempts their first climb or overcomes a specific climbing challenge. The sport meets the climber where they are in a very accessible way, but only if we make it accessible!
The new Rock Climbing Wall was installed with the help of 1Climb, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to introduce 100,000 kids to climbing. Students in grades 4-12 have the opportunity to climb, with the assistance of our onsite climbing instructor, every day after school.
