The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford is excited to announce that Maria, a 7th grader at Schofield Magnet Middle School, has been named the 2026 Junior Youth of the Year!
Maria is recognized as an outstanding leader who shines both in and out of the classroom. She founded the Club’s Friday Chess Club, where she teaches her peers how to play, organizes matches, and encourages everyone to learn new chess strategies together.
“What I like the most about the club is seeing other people grow and learn all while having fun… I feel very grateful to be a part of something so meaningful,” Maria shares.
Outside of the Club, Maria enjoys playing volleyball with friends, drawing, and exploring her passion for art. Looking ahead, she hopes to pursue a career in medicine to help others.
The Junior Youth of the Year program helps develop leadership skills in Boys & Girls Club members ages 10–13, preparing the next generation of motivated, compassionate leaders. We are so proud of Maria for her positive impact, hard work, and dedication to our Club community!
