550+ Youth Daily… 2 Locations… 1 Pop Quiz from our CEO!

As a former teacher, I know everyone loves a Pop Quiz:

“Is the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford (BGCS) funded by Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA)?” No! All Boys & Girls Clubs are independent 501(c)3 nonprofits that must raise 100% of their operating budget (for us, that means about $4 million annually). We pay a small membership fee to BGCA for branding, curriculum, and professional development.

“Is BGCS mostly funded by the government or corporations?” Not quite! Though we greatly appreciate our municipal, state, federal, (combined 18% of our annual budget) and corporate support (12%).

“Does BGCS have a large endowment?” We wish! While some Clubs do have large endowments, we have a small reserve account that is primarily used for major capital repairs and emergency expenses.

“Is BGCS only for boys and young children?” Not anymore! It’s true that until 1990 all Clubs were boys-only, a tradition that started in Hartford, CT, in 1860. Today, we welcome all. 45% of our young people identify as girls and over 450 are teens!

“Is BGCS just for athletics?” Says who? Walk in our doors any day of the week and you will see 550+ K-12 youth. While some play sports, most do not. Our children and teens have access to comprehensive programs and services that span education enrichment, character and leadership development, workforce development, the arts, and athletics.

Surprised?

As the school year unfolds, we continue to nourish our members’ minds, bodies, and spirits. We’re ready to transform their academic, athletic, and artistic dreams into reality, but we can’t do it without you. Your donation is more than a gift; it’s a lifeline for these young minds eager to learn, grow, and thrive. Make a gift to support the Club here.
