Cal Ripken Jr. - Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 with the third highest voting percentage in history, Cal Ripken, Jr. is baseball's all-time Iron Man. Now Cal is using the platform that baseball has provided him to help grow the game he loves worldwide. As owner of Ripken Baseball, he has two minor league clubs and two world-class youth baseball facilities. In 2001, Cal and Bill Ripken established the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, in memory of their father. Cal resides in Maryland with his wife, Kelly, and his two children, Rachel and Ryan.

Sports, was presented The 2013 Boys & Girls Club of Stamford’s Champion of
Youth Award at Chelsea Piers CT on Thursday, October 31st.
Over 250 Fairfield County executives and community leaders attended the Club’s
Breakfast of Champions honoring Lazarus and featuring speaker Dan Hicks, NBC
sports commentator. This Kick Off event of the 2013 Boys & Girls Club of
Stamford’s Annual Appeal raised $80,000 which will be applied to the Club’s
annual appeal goal of $190,000.
Bobby Valentine was the
Breakfast emcee. David Tewskbury, Chelsea Piers CT, welcomed all guests to
the new Stamford sports facility celebrating its first year. Eurest Dining
Services, under the direction of CEO and BGCS board member Michael Svagdis,
provided a delicious gourmet breakfast for all guests. GE, Presenting
Sponsor, kicked off the program with Dmitri Stockton, President and CEO of GE
Asset Management, and GEAM executives Dudley Williams and Don Torey.
Event honoree Lazarus was
named Chairman, NBC Sports Group, on May 19, 2011. Lazarus was integral
in NBC Universal’s recent acquisition of media rights to four Olympic Games
(2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020), its new nine-year NFL agreement and its recent
10-year agreement with the NHL. Under Lazarus’ leadership, Sunday Night
Football was the most-watched and highest-rated primetime show for the second
television season in a row; Super Bowl XLVI between the Giants and the Patriots
became the most-watched program in U.S. television history; and the 2012 London
Olympic Games was the most-watched event in U.S. television history, with more
than 217 million viewers. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Lazarus is
on the Board of Governors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
NBC sportscaster Dan Hicks, is in his 13th season as host of NBC’s Emmy
Award-winning golf coverage, and recently joined NBC Sports’ play-by-play
coverage of Notre Dame Football. Hicks has called a wide variety of sports,
ranging from Olympic speed skating and swimming to NFL games. He resides in
Greenwich with his wife Hannah Storm and their three daughters.
BGCS Annual Appeal Chairman thanked all who attended this most successful
second year event which raised 30% more than last year. Steve Elbaum,
Breakfast Chair, congratulated the Board of Directors who served as Table
Captains and encouraged all guests and the public to attend one of the Club’s
